Huck Finn

I think Huckleberry Finn was very hard for to read. I didn't like to read the parts when Jim was speaking. I felt like I was reading a different language. I didn't really enjoy this book in general though. Maybe if it was in normal reading language I would have enjoyed it a little bit more. I just thought that this story could have been cut down so much if there was just unimportant stuff took out of the story. I also think that Tom Sawyer brought Huck down a bit. Huck liked to get things done, simple and do them just to do them. But Tom had to make everything extravagant and make everything so complicated. I believe that Tom was immature and that also had an effect on Huck. One thing I did enjoy about the book was Mark Twains humor throughout. No matter what was going on he had a funny joke in there somewhere. Sometimes i thought it was a dry dull sense of humor but it was funny to read some of his jokes. In the end Huck did a very honorable thing with helping everyone out and making everyone happy. I think Huck matured a lot towards the end of the story and I believe him going back out on the river fit Huck very well. He gets to be on his own and do what he wants to do and I believe he has the mentality to be on his own as well. Even though the book was very confusing and I didn't so much enjoy it I enjoyed Huck as a character.

  1. I agree with you, I had a hard time reading this as well. I skipped all the parts where Jim was speaking because I just couldn’t understand him, which made me miss out on a lot of information which eventually made me confused. I did like how it put in towards American culture. How we are very adventurous and go out looking for what’s best for us. Huck really did mature towards the end. It seems like in the beginning this is more of a game for him but as Jim and Huck get closer he learned a lot from Jim. It was also very confusing towards the end when they all pretended to be somebody else. It was a good scam but it was easily messed up. Mark Twain did have a good sense of humor; he made you want to continue the book. My favorite part was when Huck tried to dress up like a girl thinking he would be able to trick everybody, but honestly everybody knows that was not going to work but it was funny anyways!

  2. I totally agreed with your thoughts of the book. I felt the same way. I really thought the book was just long and I guessed sometimes I missed the whole point of what the author was trying to make with this book. I also had a lot trouble with the way Jim was speaking, I really thought it was just to difficult to understand. I like how you mentioned the fact that even though you didn't like the book you liked Huck as a character. I felt the same way too, and I was kind mad the fact that the end of the book the author didn't try to shine light on Huck but instead he focused on Tom, who I didn't like so much as a character.
